Josie Osborne, Minister of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, will lead a Team B.C. mining delegation at Europe’s largest mining investment conference in London this week to create good jobs for people in B.C. and promote investment in B.C’s critical minerals sector.

“British Columbia is a world-leading mining jurisdiction and has the critical minerals that the world needs to build a low-carbon economy,” said Osborne. “This trade mission gives us a chance to showcase B.C.’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) advantage, attract partners who share our goals and values, and support good, well-paying jobs for people at home. Now is our time to show the world that B.C. should be the destination of choice for investors.”

Resourcing Tomorrow Conference in London
The Resourcing Tomorrow conference, held Nov. 28-30, 2023, in London, England, is dedicated to accelerating energy transition in the global mining sector. The B.C. delegation includes representation from the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation, Nisga’a First Nation, Association for Mineral Exploration, Northisle Copper and Gold, and many other B.C.-based mining companies. The mission has come together through the planning of B.C. Regional Mining Alliance, a partnership between the Province, First Nations, and the mining industry.

Andrew Robinson, CEO, Nisga’a Lisims Government – “The Nisga’a Nation is elated to be joining the Province as its Treaty Partner and members of the B.C. Regional Mining Alliance at the Resourcing Tomorrow event in London.  The Nation is excited to provide an environment within its modern treaty lands and relationships where investors are safe and secure in investing in the Golden Triangle in British Columbia. Working with our neighbours, the Tahltan Nation, in the creation of the Treaty Creek Corporation has provided a circle of certainty around the Golden Triangle that has brought comfort for investors bringing billions of dollars to the area.”

The mission will promote British Columbia’s strengths and significant potential for investment in critical minerals. B.C. has many of the critical minerals and metals needed to fight climate change and build a clean economy, like the components needed to build electric cars, wind turbines and solar power.

Lawrence Roulston, CEO, MTB Metals Corp. – “The B.C. government continues to enhance support for mining. B.C. is now among the most attractive places globally for mineral exploration, geological potential and getting approvals.”

The Team B.C. delegation, through a sequence of meetings and events, will engage with global industry leaders, government officials, and industry organizations to highlight the numerous advantages of engaging in the mining sector in British Columbia. Key points of focus include the region’s substantial mineral and metal deposits, which serve as a cornerstone for potential business ventures. Another significant aspect is the availability of a skilled and experienced workforce, ensuring operational efficiency and expertise. Furthermore, the delegation will emphasize British Columbia’s adherence to high environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards, showcasing a commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices.

Keerit Jutla, president and CEO, Association for Mineral Exploration – “Many of the minerals and metals necessary for a high-tech, low-carbon future can be found and responsibly produced in British Columbia. We represent the explorers, suppliers and developers discovering and evaluating these critical future-focused resources. AME is attending the Resourcing Tomorrow event to shine a spotlight on British Columbia as a centre of excellence for mineral exploration and development.”

A crucial element of their presentation will be the dedication to reconciliation, demonstrating a clear and respectful approach to obtaining First Nations’ consent for major projects, which is fundamental to the ethical operation of the sector. Additionally, the delegation will highlight the mining sector’s progressive shift towards using clean electricity over fossil fuels, resulting in a lower emissions-intensity compared to other jurisdictions. This comprehensive showcase aims to solidify British Columbia’s position as an attractive and responsible player in the global mining industry.
